(Remember as always, back up your registry before making any changes. Also remember that these are try-at-your-own-risk tricks.)
Remove duplicate devices in Windows 98 This will give you better overall performance.
Boot into safe mode by pressing F8 as your computer is starting up. Once Windows 9x boots, right click My Computer and then select Properties. Select the Device Manager and find the listed duplicate devices. Select and then remove all duplicate devices, then reboot your computer. Remember NOT to modify anything in the system devices category, this can create a real headache.
Clean your registry. All Windows versions.
Run regedit, browse to HKEY_Local_Machine\Software. Look for and remove software entries that you no longer have installed on your system. Rinse, then repeat. (Had to say it, couldn't resist.) Recreate your registry. Windows 98.
First backup your registry by running scanregw. Now run regedit from the run box, and then export the registry to C:\Windows\NewReg.reg. Restart your PC and press F8 during the PC's boot process. Now choose Command Prompt. Now you are going to type smartdrv 8192 8192 C+ At the prompt, type RegEdit /C NewReg.reg Reboot.
