What do you think of remaking classic good shows for the current audiences?? I find most of the shows are selling the names instead of making a better show. example: Battlestar Galactica. The show is out of tune from the original classic series.

I agree with you,Killer. It is hard to beat a good original.I personally feel the same way about Star Trek. The old shows are fantastic. Our children still like Bewitched,Brady Bunch,Gilligan's Island,Full House,The Cosby Show, and many others that I always liked. They don't make a lot of shows (or music)the way they used to...too mcuh crudeness and nudity on shows today.

Star Trek, that is another slightly different. I liked the original show, and the next generation. The cuirrent enterprise I don't watch it. Again they are selling the show with the Star Trek name and Enterprise. The show as claim by the Trekkies are out of tune with the Star Trek timeline. But show wise it doesn't attract my attentions. At least they don't alter the show like Battlestar did.

I have seen some excellent remakes of old movies but television has not fared as well.

Remakes are never going to please the original audience. For one, these programmes were of their time, so a remake is going to need a lot of updating to todays technology. And secondly, unless they can preserve actors so they look like they did all those years ago, it means they are going to replaced by inferior actors, and thats going to take away from the memories we had of the original.

Some remakes are good (hello, Mission Impossible, at least II), some are bad (ugh, Thomas Crown Affair - SNORE). I like a lot of song remakes, like Killing Me Softly, American Woman, etc.

In my opinion the remakes arent that good. But I guess I am to much used to the older versions and casts as to appreciate the remakes much. But I would like them however to make new shows the way they did about 15 to 20 years ago. At least it was good television.

I agree. They can change the actors but keep the characters to the original.

Some movies like Planet of the Apes are terrible compared to the original(s), there was of course 5 all up, Dirty Dancing 2 is a movie that is soley relying on the name of the first and contains some terrible acting to boot, yet others like One Hour Photo, Dawn of the Dead, and The Ring are great remakes IMO.
As for music well they tend to come and go just as fast, particularly in the dance scene, i think this is mainly due to a DJ thing, we arent actually musicians just music editors and some are fortunate enough to go pro with it. Im yet to hear a decent Bee Gees remake of any sort though. It seems that no one can duplicate the kindof success from one of their songs that they originally did, yet other bands like N-Trance have a habit of doing great editions of all the old classics (Rod Stuarts - Do ya think im sexy for prime example), Alien Ant Farm with MJ's Smooth Criminal.

I think even in music generally the originals are the best.

I think even in music generally the originals are the best. Not really. Certain music I am more prefer the modern sound and the older sounds.
